Hire Me!

May 30, 2008

I’m just finishing my third day in Troy and I’m slowly but surely getting my bearings. Hopefully I’ll have a job soon and I’ll start meeting new people. So far the Job Hunt is going slow, but hopefully I’ll find something within a week or two. I hope I do at least. God I’ll be disappointed if I don’t.

Real life is a three-titted bitch.

Maybe I should sell myself on the corner of John R and Metro Pkwy.  Good thinking, Me!

The National Spelling Bee

May 30, 2008

Thanks to my awesome friend Karianne I have a ANOTHER new YouTube obsession, clips of the insane kids that take part in the national spelling bee.  Two of my favorites are Rebecca Sealfon (winner of the 1997 bee) and Evan O’Dorney (winner of the 2007 bee).  Below is a clip of Rebecca, check out Evan HERE.

Quit Flappin’ Your Jaw

May 29, 2008

Norma Jean Lee aka NormaLeeShow on youtube, is so crazy that you can’t help but laugh. She’s my new obsession. Check her out and take comfort in the fact that you aren’t related to her, unless you are in which case I want to be your friend.

And Dateline’s To Catch A Predator is so creepy and good.

Detroitians

May 25, 2008

In honor of moving to Troy in 3 days (and only having 2 days left in Mount Pleasant) I am devoting this post to famous people I like who grew up in the Detroit area.

Judy Greer aka Kitty SanchezKristen Bell (Veronica Mars) – Grew up in Huntington Woods, which is REALLY close to Troy.  I loved Kristen as Veronica Mars and I loved her even more as Elle on Heroes.

Judy Greer (Kitty Sanchez on Arrested Development) – Grew up in Livonia, which is around 20 minutes from Troy and is where my awesome friends Ashley and Lindsay live.

Gilda Radner (Rosanne Rosannadanna on SNL) – Grew up in Detroit (not sure where exactly) and went to UofM Ann Arbor.  I wish she were still alive (wah waah).

Justin Bartha (Riley Poole in National Treasure 1 & 2) – He grew up in West Bloomfield, I don’t know much else about him other than the fact that he’s attractive.

Francis Ford Coppola (Director of Godfather 1, 2, & 3) – Born in Detroit but moved to NYC when his mom, Carmine, became the first flautist for the NBC Symphony Orchestra (she was also the first flautist for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra).  That’s one effing talented family.

Some other celebs that hail from Detroit but I don’t feel like saying anything about are Lily Tomlin, Selma Blair, James Earl Jones, Elaine Stritch, and James Lipton.

New Songs: Mix #2

May 24, 2008

Here are some new songs and artists that all of you need to put on your iPod, pronto.  In no particular order . . .

Delayed Devotion – Duffy
But your words come much too late
My love for you has turned to hate
‘Cause you’ve taken too much time
To show me that you’re mine

No Sunlight – Death Cab for Cutie
And it disappeared at the same speed
As the idealistic things I believed
The optimist died inside of me

Can’t Let Go – Landon Pigg
Well, I can’t let go
No, I can’t let go of you
You’re holding me back without even trying to.
I can’t let go
I can’t move on from the past
Without lifting a finger you’re holding me back

Sprout & the Bean – Joanna Newsom
I slept all day
Awoke with distaste
And I railed,
And I raved

Hero’s Song – Brendan James
I hear the world like a cannon roar
Say I can win this war
I promise them this
Is not what I signed up for

Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia

May 23, 2008

Every year the newspaper from my home puts out a few pages of all the high school graduates.  This past week, while visiting my parents, the issue of the paper with the graduates happened to arrive.  While looking at it my mom all of the sudden said "Chia-Chia?"  To which I replied, "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Turns out that nothing is wrong with my mother, she was just reading a name.

Yeah, Chia-Chia Chen.  Poor girl.

Mates of State

May 22, 2008

**NEW BAND ALERT**

There is a band that I actually heard of quite a while ago but unfortunately for me didn’t pay much attention to.  The band is Mates of State and I first heard them on This American Life doing a cover of California from The O.C.  I’ve included that cover below, so you should definitely check it out.

They’ve just released a new album entitled Re-Arrange Us, it’s on iTunes if you’d like to get more of a taste of what they’re all about.  I recommend giving them a listen.  I’m not so much a fan of their cd Team Boo, but I do like what I’ve heard of Re-Arrange Us so don’t be too critical of them until you’ve heard their newest.
